Wealth Outside of Money: Developing Self-Confidence & True Self-Worth

In today’s world, it’s hard not to attribute success to the “almighty dollar.” Everyone wants enough money to live comfortably, and some people want to be able to earn well beyond that. Some people even associate their financial success with their self-worth. There’s nothing wrong with striving for more or working hard for a higher salary. However, when money is your only source of confidence and self-worth, you have to stop and consider how “wealthy” you really are. What would happen if all of your money disappeared tomorrow? Hopefully, that won’t happen. But, if you wouldn’t have anything else to fall back on in your life without money, it could be time to develop your self-confidence and true self-worth further.

Let’s take a look at exactly how you can build those characteristics, fostering wealth outside of money.

Be Kind to Yourself

Think about your closest friends and dearest family members. What makes you love them? What are a few things about them you admire? Do you value them based on their financial status or how much power they have? Most importantly, if those people in your life didn’t have much money or possessions, would it change how you feel about them? Chances are, the answer is no. Most of us love other people based on their character, not what they earn or even what they have to offer us. If you can practice kindness and compassion to family and friends no matter their financial situation, why wouldn’t you show yourself the same kindness?

Be kind to yourself by recognizing your positive characteristics. Remember who you are without a wall of money in front of you. What do you love about yourself? What do your friends and family love about you? How do they view you? If you’re having a hard time coming up with anything, ask those same individuals. You might be surprised by the answers.

Focus On Your Strengths

It’s not uncommon for people to want to make an enormous amount of money because they feel they’re lacking in other areas of life. However, everyone has strengths, even if you don’t always see them right away. When you shift your focus away from financial worth, you can start to hone in on other things you’re good at. Maybe you’re a great friend, a hard worker, or you’re trustworthy and loyal. It’s not always easy to think about your most positive attributes, but everyone has them. Try writing a list of things you’re good at or positive characteristics that make you who you are. You’ll quickly see that you’re worth more than any amount of money.

Do Things You Enjoy

Doing things you enjoy can help to boost your confidence because you’ll either have to use certain skills or learn something new. Whether you have a specific hobby or you like to try new things, take time as often as possible to do something you love. It’s a great way to appreciate the little things in life, recognize that your life is worth more than money, and see that your self-worth can be found in who you are and the things you do rather than what you have in your bank account. If you want to really give yourself a boost, do things you enjoy with people you love. Spending time with positive people is a great confidence builder, and you’ll often be reminded of how valuable you are.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be financially successful. However, make sure money hasn’t taken over your life to define your self-worth. Use these ideas to develop more confidence, and you’ll find greater satisfaction and contentment. If you need help discovering your self-worth and self-confidence, contact our office today.
